As part of the John Jennings Memorial Spinnaker Regatta, the J/88 Class sailed their 2023 Midwinter Championship on Tampa Bay. Hosting the event was St. Petersburg Yacht Club. The RC ran four races over the two days of light, challenging weather conditions. The regatta ended up in a tiebreaker for first place with identical scores of 7 points. Iris Vogel’s DEVIATION had a 2-1-3-1 tally while Bill Purdy’s WHIRLWIND had a 1-3-1-2 scoreline. Vogel’s team won on the countback to take the gold and be crowned Midwinter Champion. Silver went to Purdy’s WHIRLWIND team, while taking the bronze medal was Andrew Weiss’ ONE TOO MANY team with a 3-2-2-3 record for 10 points.
